Hello! I'm Taiwo Ikeoluwa Adeloye-Ajao but most know me by my initials "tia". I was born in DC; Raised in Baltimore--a Nigerian American. I got a public health degree in Maternal & Child Health many years ago, which eventually led me to Doula service & Perinatal Nursing. I absolutely love this work but I get very passionate about topics that I can not change at the bedside. I aim to empower black families and families of culture to obtain childbirth education early and to advocate for their own birth stories. I am The Director of Advocacy for non-profit Together Inspiration Acts Inc. dba Hello Baby Baltimore where we make the most of group learning such as at baby events. I am Mom to 2 awesome kids, an RN Birth Assistant, a student of Nurse-Midwifery, a Board-Certified IBCLC, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and a DONA Certified Birth Doula for Hello Baby Events.

Hello! I'm 'Wale (like the rapper). I completed my first degree as a Medical Doctor in Nigeria, West Africa in 2002. I am interested in more than just medicine: I want to see people understand their health so that the masses are impacted! So when I relocated from Nigeria to Baltimore, I acquired a Master's of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Producing for Film and Video. It's kinda cool! Now I use my medical knowledge as a media producer: DrAjao.com. This experience makes me an amazing health communicator! I teach in my spare time and I use fun & games to educate & connect people. I am Dad to 2 cool kids and I am a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educatora DONA-trained Birth Doula and Creative Director for Hello Baby Baltimore.

Hello Baby Baltimore Partners with
The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective
to Empower Black Birthing People in Baltimore & The DMV

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

{Baltimore, MD} - The Village Innovating Perinatal Services Maternal Telehealth Access Project (MTAP) with Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (R.O.S.E.)  has empowered Hello Baby Baltimore to launch a Doula Advocacy initiative aimed to advocate for and "Doula the Doula". Hello Baby Partners with The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective to implement this community health initiative. The purpose of this grant-funded project is to support families who would otherwise not be able to afford the full cost of a doula. This is all made possible by R.O.S.E. who shares this amazing opportunity with the Maternal Telehealth Access Project

"We believe that every single person should be a doula," states Dr. 'Wale Ajao, Creative Director of Hello Baby Baltimore, a doula, doctor, dad and producer. "We advocate for doulas because aside from the birthing person, they are the most important person in the room! We need to get the word out there to fight against the Black Maternal Health Crisis! We know this partnership will help us reach more people."

The goal of the project is also to support Doula-Client dyads with childbirth education, self- advocacy training, and a safe space to share while providing the doula with a mini-grant to support their own professional role. This collaboration with The S.A.F.E. Sistas doula collective is deeply strategic as we provide the very best professional doula services to  black, indigenous and people of color. In addition, this opportunity provides IBCLC lactation consultations to these families and postpartum wellness consults with a perinatal mental health specialist. This is established to ensure that we are providing holistic care to each family.

            Meet The S.A.F.E. Sistas

The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective is a non-profit organization based in Baltimore, MD. This collective, formed in 2019, comprises a multifaceted group of BIPOC with diverse backgrounds in healthcare, education, parenthood, administration, and public service. Our mission is to facilitate and maintain safe and holistic perinatal, birth, and postpartum support to birthing people, as well as their families, in an effort to prevent and navigate traumatic and dangerous birth experiences caused by preventable negligence and/or maltreatment. Our Doula Collective understands that birth is a sacred experience and should therefore be honored as such. This collective is committed to positively impacting Black maternal and infant health within the Baltimore Metro-Region by empowering birthing families through advocacy and individualized support. With the Baltimore Metropolitan Region having a higher incidence of lower income families, with limited access to equitable quality care, The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective has seen these health disparities as a call to action. To serve as a resource, our collective provides free and low-cost support services to those in need. These services include continuous labor/birth support, childbirth education, lactation support, trauma-informed care, newborn care, and youth and life skills. The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective will work with community-based organizations, with similar missions, to combat maternal and infant mortality, by centering human rights and reproductive justice. Birthing families deserve to be well-informed, validated and supported through pregnancy and the postpartum period, and to have a say in the manner in which they birth. The S.A.F.E. Sistas Doula Collective will strive to ensure that birthing families have the tools they need to have humanized, safe, and successful birthing experiences.

The Maternal Telehealth Access Project (MTAP) Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE)

Representatives of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), the National Birth Equity Collaborative, the Georgia Health Policy Center, R.A.C.E. for Equity, Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere, the National Perinatal Association, the Morehouse School of Medicine and National Area Health Education Centers Organization have partnered for the Maternal Telehealth Access Project (MTAP). MTAP will address disparities, support providers and families, and boost access to telehealth and distant care services for maternal health with a one-time award of up to $4 million through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, awarded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Through MTAP, Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) aimed to distribute a total of $200,000 in funding to community partners and Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) led community-based and public health organizations which serve BIPOC and marginalized rural communities in perinatal health services. Selected awardees for the Village Innovating Perinatal Support (VIPS) Cohort, and represent each of the 10 HRSA regions. An additional $70,000 worth of telehealth resources will directly serve families to support their access to perinatal support services.

HUSH BABY NOT MAMA #HBNM
BREAKS THE SILENCE

Hush Baby Not Mama #HBNM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: Together Inspiration Acts Inc., info@tiacts.org (443) 384-7443

The Hush Baby Not Mama Advocacy Campaign breaks the silence surrounding Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders and the Impact of Fetal & Infant Loss (Baltimore, MD November 5, 2017)-- Hush Baby Not Mama [#HBNM], an interesting twist of Beauty, Empowerment & Advocacy has brought light to issues that silence women since February 2014.

Silence The Mime

Whereas #HBNM has placed an emphasis on  Intimate Partner Violence during the first launch, this relaunch focuses on the silence surrounding all perinatal matters including perinatal mood disorders, loss, violence, postpartum challenges and related preventative health promotion.

Bling Top by Beautiful Genesis Brandi Carrington

With the belief that no one is more intimate to a person than him or herself, Hush Baby Not Mama reminds us to Speak Up during times of hurt or difficulty as we promote health, safety and wellness for ourselves and our community.

Just as absurdly it is for an adult to wear a pacifier, so is the paradox of the beauty of mother and woman hood being stifled by the aftermath of loss, displacement or unexpected challenges.

This collaboration includes the engagement of advocates, who are inspired to make a statement together. This initiative is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Follow #HBNM #HushBabyNotMama and look out as #HBNM Speaks Out!
