God Gave Me Mine

* Dedicated to marriage*

I contemplate on my bed tonight, in darkness I’m aware
Tossing about trying to sleep, for another form is there
I look to the right and there he is, snoring like all is fine
So bothered by my unrest I smile: this man indeed is mine.

The one I bicker with and sometimes can not stand
The same whispers sweetly and wants to understand
Consumed so much with media; too techy for my taste
But hey, I do take pleasure in his available, warm embrace

Different opinions, different interests, different joys
Patience paired against resistance, a tricky, Divine ploy
The strength to demonstrate concrete love in it’s powerful, humbling essence
With strength to stand rather than run, I must enjoy his presence

Greatest of all I am the least, I serve him by the hour
But after thinking through it all I rather seize his power
But then he discovers the same secret and serves me in return
And that is when, by the end, such passion and desire burns

God gave me him. He gave me mine
The most perfect imperfect mate He could find
Though struggling for power in our very own home
I know we struggle together and I’m not alone.

Works all day, every day—is there ever a break?
Can't we take a moment now to meander by a lake?
And take time to enjoy our lives—yeah, money would be fine
But riches are often left untold. Understand, my king, you’re mine
