In My Mind's Eye: Dish Duty

Wifey’s Story

Wifey hates washing the dishes, but it has to get done. So she faces the drudgery of the act as she squeezes dish liquid on the sponge and scrubs away. Hubby walks in, tosses his plate and cup onto the pile and walks away. Smoke comes out of her ears.

Well, in my mind's eye, this is how it really went down:

Wifey’s washing the dishes. Hubby knows that she hates washing the dishes so he enters the kitchen, hugs her from behind, and asks if he can help. She smiles and says that she would appreciate the help. So he places his plate and cup down on the pile and together they wash and dry, swaying as they sing a silly song they make up about dishes. :)

Hubby’s Story

Wifey hates washing the dishes, but they both know that it has to get done. Hubby would do it himself if he wasn’t stuck in an online office meeting. He hurries into the kitchen, tosses his plate and cup onto the pile and dashes out to get back to the meeting. But before he could leave the kitchen, he hears her bang on the sink. Couldn’t she understand that he’s in an important meeting?

Now in my mind’s eye this is how it really went down:

Wifey comes into the office and says “Hubby, I’ve got to wash the dishes—makes me want to pull my hair out!” Hubby says “Yeah, that’s how I feel about cleaning the bathroom.” They shrug with an understanding smirk. Wifey looks closer “What are you doing?” “I’m in an online meeting with my boss and some of my supervisors. We’ve got to put this project together tonight.” “Okay honey. Let me give you peace and take care of those dishes.” She spots the dishes on his table. “Let me take those for you.”
