In My Mind's Eye: Petty Desires

Wifey’s Story

So Wifey really wants some shoes she noticed from Saks 5th Avenue. She approaches Hubby, wraps her arms around his neck and with puppy dog eyes, indirectly implies that she needs some cash for something important. He gives her a speech about how they need to save and invest and how their petty desires need to wait for their future good. She sighs and walks away, disappointed that her attempt was fruitless. :/

Well, in my mind's eye, this is how it really went down:

It’s Wifey’s day off and Hubby is ready to leave for work; but before he goes, he hands her a wad of $20s totaling $500 bucks! He says "Get something nice for herself". She asks "What about our savings?". He says "I'll take care of that". He drags his finger down her nose, past her lips and to her chin lifting it, then says "It's time to take care of you" with a tender kiss. He holds her hand and departs, leaving her grip reluctantly. She thinks 'Maybe those $500 shoes from Saks can wait. I think I'll invest in some Saks shares!' :)

Hubby’s Story

So Wifey really wants some shoes she noticed from Saks 5th Avenue. Hubby knows ‘cause she’s got 10 pictures of them on her cell phone! Hubby also knows how much they cost: $459.99! Why would you spend $460 on shoes???? He just didn’t understand. Wifey approaches Hubby, wrap her arms around his neck with puppy dog eyes and implies that she needs some cash for something important. Why couldn’t she just tell him the whole truth? So he gives her a speech about how they need to save and invest and how their petty desires need to wait for their future good. She goes away whining about the fact that she never gets anything nice. What about that new necklace? What about the matching bracelet and earrings, and her new stylish winter jacket?

Now in my mind’s eye this is how it really went down:

After Hubby’s speech about needing to save and invest, Wifey says “Okay, you’re right. I just wanted those shoes from Saks really. I know they can wait.” He feels really proud of her. On his train ride to work, he reads the paper and finds out that his stocks had greatly increased in value! He can’t wait to tell Wifey the good news. He stops by Saks to get the shoes to surprise her. He gets home, shares the great news, and presents her with the gift while she covers him with kisses! He feels so good to have made her happy and to show that he was right!
