In My Mind's Eye: The Rat Race

Wifey’s Story

So Wifey gets home from work. It was one of those late days. Tired as a rat (you know, the rat race) and all she wants to do is to lie down. As soon as she walks in, Hubby says "Hi honey; what's for dinner?" She sulks to the kitchen dragging her feet, muttering her complaints.

Well, in my mind's eye, this is how it really went down:

Wifey opens the door and is welcomed by a delightful aroma! Her apron-clad Hubby peeks out from the kitchen. "Honey, I got home early from work. I wanted to get this done before you got home. Just relax in the living room, put your feet up and I'll be right there." Soon, he enters the living room with a tray of her favorite meal. She kisses him tenderly as she says "Thank you, honey." He looks at her sincerely and says "No, Thank you". :)

Hubby’s Story

Hubby comes home after a long day of work. He’s tired and hungry. He’s discouraged; I mean he’s been working his job for 5 years now and what’s he have to show for it? Paycheck after paycheck, bill after bill; he can hardly keep the family afloat. If only he could get that business idea off the ground. Sigh…but the Wifey doesn’t think it could work. Wifey walks in. He wishes she didn’t have to work so hard. He says “Hi honey. What’s for dinner?” She sulks to the kitchen complaining as if it were such a terrible task to make dinner. He wonders if it’s because of him that she’s become so unhappy. She comes out of the kitchen and says “Honey, there’s nothing to eat. I’m tired too. I’m off to bed.” Hubby wipes his face and sighs. He goes to the kitchen, has himself some noodles and heads to the room where Wifey lies, facing the wall. He sighs and does his best to fall asleep.

Now in my mind’s eye this is how it really went down:

Hubby gets back from work practically drained. He decides to take a brief nap before Wifey gets home. He wakes up to a blurry vision. It appears to be Wifey standing there smiling brightly. He focuses in…her smile reminds him of when they first met. “Hello dear; dinner is ready”. At the dining room table, she uncovers a plate of his favorite meal. He asks “Join me?” She says “My pleasure” and they enjoy dinner together. Hubby announces “Honey, I have a brilliant business idea!” She leans in to hear him carefully. After listening to his idea, she answers with awe and amazement: “Wow, what a great idea! Who would think of that? You’re so clever, I know it will work!” They brainstorm together, pray over it, and feel a sense of accomplishment. Then they relax to watch CNN while she massages his feet, after which they head to bed together.
