Be S.U.P.E.R.: Present & Engaged

A present is a gift from me to you. 
Something full of wonder and excitement.
You open it with anticipation!
Maybe it's what you've been dreaming of all year long... 
It's your present, your moment;
Your here and now;
And it's all yours 

Giving your present to a child can mean the world to him. 
When you stop and give him your full attention, 
You see that sparkle in his eye as he tells you the thoughts on his mind; 
He relishes having you, your mind fully on him 
And he rejoices in his heart that Mommy listened to him today... 
['Cause "Mommy, you never listen. Mommy, you never listen to me"...]

Engaged is that special, special time, 
When one person devotes himself to another, 
And she is full of excitement and amazement.
She begins to dream of her future 
Of plans and desires that she hopes for. 

Engaged!
It seems like she has waited for this moment forever!
And finally you gave it to her. 
Engaged!
She is engaged to you.

Engaging a child means making her a part of joyful experiences. 
Of sharing it with your full attention 
Learning just as much as she within this teaching moment,
You engage with her; in fact, you become a child again! 
You return to being young and impressionable,
As if you've traveled back in time and in that moment you returned to the true you. 
Just by spending time with her;
For that moment she lives, 
You listen to her stories and answer her questions
You discover more about this little person, 
This person: the child that you bore 
And you get to know her.  
When you engage her,
When you are engaged to her, 
You get to know her,
You get to learn her.

We've got a lot of work to do, S.U.P.E.R. Parents. 
Let's give this present to them. 
In these moments, let's be engaged,
For alas the chance will steadily pass us by... 
Time is ticking.
